Shillingstone Station Signal Box - KIT
The original Shillingstone Station Signal Box was constructed in 1878 and was built a result of an inspection carried out on the Somerset and Dorset Railway in late 1875. The box was a S&D “Type 1” signal box, which had many similarities to the LSWR “Type 1” boxes. Throughout its life, the box underwent various upgrades and adjustments, most notably the eventual upgrade to a 16-lever frame in 1930. Shillingstone station was closed in 1966, with the signal box subsequently being demolished along with most of the other buildings at the station.
Reconstruction on the site of the original signal box was completed by a team of volunteers in 2011, and is now a popular attraction at Shillingstone Station.
